Winterthur Estate Partnership
We are excited to have partnered with the Winterthur Estate, Museum, and Gardens.
Winterthur Estate is a historic property located in northern Delaware, USA. The property was originally owned by the du Pont family, who purchased it in the late 19th century. The family used the property as a country retreat and over time expanded it to include a large mansion, gardens, and a museum.
The du Pont family is a prominent American family that played a significant role in the country's industrial and political history. The family's legacy began with Éleuthère Irénée du Pont, who founded the du Pont Company in 1802, a manufacturer of gunpowder and explosives that became one of the largest chemical companies in the world.
The mansion, known as Winterthur, was designed by architect Thomas Ustick Walter and completed in 1839. The du Ponts added to the mansion over the years, creating a grand residence with over 175 rooms.
In addition to the mansion, the du Ponts also created extensive gardens and a museum on the property. The gardens were designed by Henry Francis du Pont, who was a renowned horticulturist and collector of rare plants. The Winterthur Gardens cover 60 acres of rolling hills, meadows, and woodlands, with more than 20 different gardens showcasing a diverse collection of plants and flowers. The gardens are designed in a naturalistic style, with winding paths, serene water features, and a breathtaking array of colors and textures.
It was an amazing experience to visit the Estate, Gardens, and Museum, with my grandmother who was born and raised in Delaware, only 15 miles away from Winterthur. This was one of her proudest moment in our pen making process. It allowed her to show my wife and I her “roots.” We were able to take reclaimed hardwoods from their magnificent gardens and repurpose them into our own pieces of art. Handcrafted luxury pens.
