Shibe Park (Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles)
Shibe Park, located in Philadelphia, was a historic baseball stadium that opened in 1909 and served as the home of the Philadelphia Athletics (now the Oakland Athletics) and later the Philadelphia Phillies. It was the first concrete-and-steel stadium in Major League Baseball, marking a significant shift from the wooden ballparks of the era. With a capacity that eventually grew to over 33,000, Shibe Park hosted several World Series and All-Star Games during its time. Known for its iconic “spite fence”, a tall structure built to block views from nearby rooftops, the park became a cornerstone of Philadelphia sports history. The stadium was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in 1953, after the Athletics' long-time manager, but eventually fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1976, leaving behind a legacy as one of baseball’s most important early ballparks.
